It's Thursday and I'm doing my blog post. I didn't forget this week! I'm very proud of myself. I felt pretty good about the things we did this week. I made up a lot of points from the quiz I bombed by doing a mastery, I got an a on the related rates quiz from last week, I did well on the review assignment. I'm writing this blog right after taking the chapter 4 test. I'm fairly certain I did almost all of them right with the exception of number 9 but I had a 50/50 shot of getting that one right. I already know I did the non calculator portion almost all correct, I only made one small mistake. It's been a good week. I'll turn in my mastery and homework tomorrow and hopefully my grade will be an a before break! I'm really excited

So.. I may have missed my blog from last week. We had not done it in a while and it simply slipped my mind. I was devastated after missing that blog post. I vow that it will not happen again. The highlight of the week this week in Calculus was when I took the optimization quiz. I failed it 11/20. I was also devastated by that. There was a lot of devastation in your class this week. It was mostly my fault to be honest, but I hope next week will be better. Shane, Ishan and I are set to work on the optimization investigation on Tuesday, hopefully that will help me to grasp the concept. I will definitely do the mastery because I cannot afford to maintain the 54 percent F that I have in this class right now. That is just not Ok for me. I think with a mastery though I can get most, if not all of those points back. The chapter four test will hopefully raise my grade as well. I understand most of the other things in the chapter. For some reason optimization just did not sit right. I like related rates though. Also the extra credit from the cans I brought in should help to offset that blog post that I missed.  To brighten the mood, here is a a picture of Ishan and I in your class last week.

Just to let you know where I've been, and why I've missed so much school recently, I have an upper respiratory infection. It is however getting better, and I should be in school for the remainder of the trimester. I am almost entirely caught up in terms of classwork. I still have about half of two worksheets to do. I guess you could say I have one worksheet to do. Because math. Anyways, I also need to make up the quiz that most of the class took on Thursday. I did not fully understand the materials on Wednesday when I left class, but somehow on Sunday when I went to attempt the assignment, I understood it all. It took me quite some time, but I got it all down. So I would like to think that I am ready for the quiz that I will take on Monday. As far as I know, I am ready for the exam as well. Although I did mess up a few questions about limits on the chapter three test. I should review limits. In fact, that's what I'll do right now. See you in class Monday! With all that said, I'm going to do a shameless plug for my BPA Italian Oven Fundraiser now. You should come on Monday night and eat. The proceeds go to the MPATC BPA chapter heres the coupon you bring.

I had a lot of fun taking the test on Monday. Not really, but I didn't struggle with it too much. I think there were two problems I wasn't sure about. I took the test on Monday, and today, on Friday, I don't remember what either of them are. We then moved on to section 4.1, which was largely just review. The only new concept was finding the extremas analytically instead of just graphically. What I am struggling with is section 4.2. I was sick on Wednesday and Thursday so I missed the lesson. I attempted to teach myself the concepts, but I was not successful. While I'm writing this, it is Friday morning, I have not been to your class yet. Hopefully, after going through the 4.2 CCC I will understand everything I need to know, however, if I don't, you can except a meeting from me after class.

I did not realize that we would have the opportunnity to make up points on our quizzes. This could be very helpful for my gpa in the future. It will also encourage me to revisit topics I might have struggled with. In the past I might have just moved on and not learned the subjects. This is very helpful. I actually learned all three of the things I struggled with on the quiz. This is going to make me much more confident going into Mondays test. I'm slightly worried that it is a spiral test. I've never had to deal with that in the past, but I'm pretty solid on limits. I'll leave you with a preview of my mastery whiteboards.

Going into Friday, I was unsure about whether or not I should take the quiz. I decided against it as I missed Thursday and I think I made the right choice. I didn't fully understand the concept we learned Wednesday, so missing Thursday really screwed me over in that I didn't learn the new concept, or the old one. On Friday, I spent the class period working through problems in the book to give myself the practice I needed. That really helped me understand the concepts and I think I should be ready to take the quiz on Monday. Implicit differentiation is actually a lot more fun than u substitution I think. You just follow the rules and plug in the numbers. I like it! Here is a picture of a problem that me and Shane raced to finish a few days ago. We got the same answer, but I beat him to it.

Last week, in my blog post, I wrote about how disappointed I was. I was disappointed because I got the grade for my last quiz back. I got a C-. That is just not a grade I am ok with. As you can imagine, I was extremely excited when you announced that we would be able to retake the quiz. I enlisted the help of Michael Wyman. There were three problems that I did not know how to solve. He showed me a step by step method to solve all three. One thing I had struggled with in the past was finding the equation of the tangent line when you are provided with f'(4)=5 and f(4)=7. He explained that you simply use 4 as m, and use (4,7) as your ordered pair and then plug it into y=mx+b. Its that simple. I'm fairly confident that I answered both of those questions correctly on the quiz retake earlier today. I included my work schedule. Last week was hell. I picked up two extra shifts and I had a cross meet. I worked Sunday-Tuesday, 4:30 to 10:30 and had a cross meet on Wednesday 2 hours away, then worked Thursday 4:30 to 10:30. I was very busy, however I managed to get most of my work done, I hope.

I just looked at my last quiz score, and I'm really disappointed. I had an A in the class prior to this quiz, but I got C- on it. I was most disappointed because I thought I did very well on it. Leaving the room, there was only one question that I was shaky on. It was the second to last problem on the first page that caused most of the difficulty for me. Today, you went over an example of what, if I remember correctly, is a similar problem. It dealt with finding the derivative of the equation when you are only given the derivitive of a point and a point. I think I understand that problem. now. We will go over the quiz in a few minutes, and then I'll know what I did wrong. I'll leave you with a piece of wisdom I saw on your board yesterday. s
