At the beginning of the fourth week of class, we were going to take the limits test. That was originally supposed to be on Monday, however it was pushed to Tuesday on account of the quiz scores from the previous week. I don't think I really needed the extra day. I got 19 out of 20 on the quiz, and as far as I know, I understood the concept fairly well. That being said, I have not gotten my score for the test on Tuesday yet, so maybe I shouldn't say I fully understood the concept yet, but I think I did pretty well on the test. After the test on Wednesday, we moved into derivatives. We haven't formally defined derivatives yet, but word on the street is that a derivative is the slope of a point. I'm not sure yet how exactly that will work in execution, but I imagine that it will expand on the limits we learned last chapter. You opened the unit by asking "What does it mean to be going 58 miles per hour at 2:03 pm?" I understand that it is impossible to actually determine what that means. I also understand that you can only get very very close to the actual meaning, never actually approaching it using limits. I'll leave you with a picture of a car.

Ok, I have now moved on to my fourth attempt at typing this blog. The Weebly app keeps force quitting every time I get about a hundred and fifty words in. I am currently in a state of frustration. It's 11 o'clock, I have to wake up at six. I'm going to post this as is and try to fix this in the morning. Sorry it's late at the moment. The app appears to be working today. This week we worked mainly with limits. Towards the end we began exploring continuity. There were not many concepts that I did not understand. I enjoyed the review activity on Friday, although there could have been two or three papers for each station. That would have simplified things. I'll leave you now with a picture of Ishan and I measuring things the first week of class.

After getting a 3.5 on my blog post from last week, I thought about it for a while, and I looked at the feedback you have me and I realized my last post was not quite long enough, and it didn't have enough specific examples. I have resolved to fix that with this post, and I am determined to get a 4. This week we started working on limits. I, out of necessity, neglected to take the third trimester of Honors Pre-Calc last year, so they were a totally new concept for me. I think I understand them very well. I understand the methods of solving for them, graphically, using direct substitution, numerically and algebraicaly. I also understand when you need to use the different methods, for example, you cannot use the direct substitution method if in doing so, you create a zero in the denominator. Right now, it is lunchtime on Thursday. I am about halfway done with the first bookwork assignment. So far, nothing has tripped me up. I think I have a firm grasp on the concept. The second half of my answers may appear to contradict that, however, I can assure you that's solely due to the fact that I have Cross-Country practice right after school, and work right after Cross-Country, so I won't get around to doing my homework until around 11. I have attached a picture below. It is a picture I took during your lecture on Thursday of an example problem that I really enjoyed. I enjoyed it because it a cumulatively reviewed algebraic concepts while simultaneously introducing the concept of limits.

This is essentially my first time writing a blog, so I'm not 100% sure on how the works, but I'll just jump right in. I went in to AP Calculus not really knowing what to expect. I didn't know the teacher and I really didn't know too much about the subject either. As we approach the end of the first week, some of the worries I had had previously had been alleviated. From what I can tell so far, the teaching style and classroom atmosphere is very modern. I believe it is an environment in which I can do very well. I still have a few kinks to work out in the math realm, however, I think that is simply stemmed from lack of practice. I have not practiced any of my basic math skills since the end of second trimester last year. I think after a week or so in this class I will be back up to speed.
